.. the last day of school in sec3, one reflects and realises that there's only a year left to spend in victoria - such a thought would make most victorians, who'd been touched by the victorian spirit, feel a sense of uncertainty. we all know nothing else can fill up that gap in our hearts that the victorian spirit can - u can say its much like God, just on a smaller scale. fear of the emptiness and not being able to rekindle that mysterious strength is felt by the victorian at his graduation day. the thought makes me quiver.
another regretted event would be the announcement of de souza's retirement. she's the greatest english teacher - maybe beacause she's HOD of the language. she was a pleasant teacher. she wasn't just a teacher, but a friend to the entire class. she's one the entire class can tell their unhappiness to - still remeber the 'pong mong song' saga. man, what am i gonna do without her, what is the class gonna do without her. she's one teacher that would go into my record book of good teachers - who i would honour forever.
without her i'm sure english lessons, which i usually look forward to, would return to its normalcy - boredom. maybe we'll get magaret ng or something.. glad i did go up to her and thank her for being such a approachable teacher and wish her all the best after retirement... but i'm still rather down, all the same..
dammit i'm afraid of losing all the good teaches.. especially going into sec4. no more de souza already a great blow, especially when my english was one of my weakest - an A2. Jia wen might not teach us animore, being pregnant the school won't want her to miss too much of our lessons. but all the same she's the best physics teacher. Lee hwa phaik might also get pissed by our lousy attitude and decide to teach another class.. then 3D is really screwed, and start regretting not cherishing good teachers in sec3..

less than 30 with L1R5's of 10.. a mere 7% of the cohort with a single digit L1R5. 20 over being retained, twice that made to drop subjects and take 7 subj - the principal even revealing that sec3 '04 is the weakest batch that ever entered the school for a long while, bringing much concern by all teaching staff.
Fear that what is left of the school's image would be totally scrapped by our cohort once the result for the O's are out for this batch. Bringing Victoria school to nothing but another neighborhood school. No this can not happened - it must not. But how do we reach this prevention if the entire cohort is only concerned about their 'life', where fun is all that matters - studies secondary. Hence they excel tremendously in Co-curriculum activities but not academically.
The statistics of the cohort just speaks one word: Disgrace. Yet they complain about lousy teachers being the sole cause. Then, it has to be asked, how does the small percentage score above 75%? If you're just plain stupid, work harder. If you've not tried working hard 24/7, you have little right to say that there's no fault on your part. I guess being retained will do you some good... have fun.

damn them.. damn them.. they stole the top positions... robbing me of my opportunity to get the 500 bucks...
they came years older than us, having learnt far more than we locals. they came with the determination that scares even the most hardworking. and yet they aren't the cream of the crop in their nation. it just comes to show how strong the student population is in countries like china, which was only a few years back deemed to be back ward and unworthy of consideration.
their previous handicap in the english language is quickly overcame by their ability to pick up as much, that swiftly. being already outstanding in mathematics and the sciences, they easily get percentages that no ordinary local can achieve. leaving people, like me, unable to attain the top 5% - especially when there's only 4 places to get the 500 dollars.
things that we are learning now, had already been covered in china, and these chinese scholars merely treat the lessons as revision. come exams, they fly - beating everyone else. extensive english classes given to them, together with their ceaseless vigor to improve, allow them to quickly catch up with the english standards of the locals.
well, that's for the PRC scholars. Asian scholars like the malaysian in 3d - Sing Wei, is just a waste of our country's resources. Bringing in useless talent like the m'sian, doesn't bring any positive competition to the learning environment. Such scholars only serve to deprive the locals of opportunites in the respective courses that only allow a limited number of applicants - Even when he is unable to cope with his studies, getting L1R5's of above 30 [pulling 3d's class msg down]
you see... scholars like sing Wei do not deserve to be in singapore.. period.

.. the point of reference is obviously going to be school.. school work.. school life. this post was naturally due to the reccent release of examination results. while some struggle to be promoted, others fight over the top 5% and 10% - eyeing the coveted 500 or 300 bucks.
In 3d and 3a, the latter is more of the case. friendships are put aside, as the race to be the top 5% begins. every man is for himself, sometimes acting compassionate towards a friend's failure to be just as good - or if he himself did worse, would be green with envy. Such is the reality of the unhealthy way competition for better results is carried out.
Yet the slamming of pupils who do better, is competition's cruelty. Jealousy and envy causes those who don't do as well to dislike those who do better. Such disharmony may even escalate to hatred or even anger that turns violent, if further tested.
the 500 bucks may be an incentive for students to work hard to be the top 5%, but things turns ugly for the one who fails to get it. Ridiculous accusations that one who does better has robbed him of his 500 bucks day in; day out, is just one example of good sportsmanship students display. Yet few can deny he will do the same if he were in the same position as the former.
however, such competition would eventually benefit the education institutes as students are spurred on to do better, but it may not be the healthiest of ways..

..what is this world coming to? or rather what is this student population up to? There has been an evident trend of singaporeans donning precription oakleys and having white designer ear phones plugged snugly into their ears. what's more they are just little boys, spending big bucks on superbrands like apple and oakleys. A once unusual sight to see an ordinary person having the distinct white earbuds in his ears just some years ago, is now a normality.
As steve jobs spoke on the newsweek, that such a phenomenon is appearing all over the world. From china to canada, all sorts of people are taking to the style and groove of the zen mp3 player that has just reccently been wildly publicised.
In VS alone, there are not less than 8 ppl with ipods and more than 15 with oakleys. And the numbers are increasing. Owning one of these brands has even become a dream to some, having seen others having theirs - even when they can hardly afford it. Soon these superbrands, once a means of boosting personal status: will become nothing but another Reebok or Puma.
Are you guilty of conforming to this trend? I am.

... today hwa soon made a startling confession that he, or rather she, was a female once. the story goes that she wanted to be a guy, and went for a sex-operation. he professes that he has his birth certificate to prove he was once a female. Claiming to be ball'less, he told the class his tragic story of recovery having his upper body removed and ass shaped. But the doctors worked on his pelvis for most of the operation, being the most vital part of the change... now we know there's more to it than his face that's preventing him from tying the knot.
Claiming to be a She-male, once named nicky and now ricky, being also knowned as theophilus, having that priceless immaturity, retarded face, spastic way of functioning, is said to have graduated from oloo-sembawang secondary school, and taught by MR TAY for maths in his secondary school!!
Only one name lives up to all that.. Chew Hwa Soon.

... today, vaibhav sarda decided to create his very own little india in his little corner of the class room. he realised his natural ability to create a black hole that absorbed 99.9% of all visible light wasn't enought to create the 'little India' effect. He marked his official seal on pieces of paper, the stamping pad being his asre and stamp - his hands, and tossed it all ard effectively turning the place into his creation - Vaibhav sarda's creation. He successfully turned the classroom not only into little india, but his very own home - the ultimate shit hole
